I am the kind of person that if I listen to a song long enough I begin to choreograph it. Yet many of the songs I listen to, and that may minister to me, never reach our ministry group. When choosing a song for ministry, I prayerfully consider the message in the song, the focus of our church ministry, whether it is God focused or self focused, is it encouraging, will it be an exhortation first to our group and then to those we will minister to, and if it falls in line with what our pastor is ministering on. Now that last part is tricky for a number of reasons. Foremost being, I have no clue WHAT our pastor will be teaching on any given Sunday. And since we minister only once every other month, trying in my own power to coordinate such a feat is impossible. So I trust in the leading of the Holy Spirit, and realize that just because a song is pretty or I have it on repeat does not make it fit for ministry for our group at this particular time…
