I often find it helpful when I am choreographing, to put on a playlist of songs that are currently ministering to me. Soon enough a song or two (do I hear three?) may grab me, and I begin to see movement and arrangements in my mind and from there, I begin to move, to commune with God, allowing my spirit to worship, inviting the Holy Spirit into my atmosphere. Often at this point, I will recognize a pattern taking place. Sometimes there are just shapes, and I may even get “stuck” on one part. I don’t always have a completed piece before rehearsals, sometimes I am finishing the choreography as I am teaching it, allowing one motion to flow into another, working out the details of a motion, a transition to the next part that I do have. Often I will default to a few of my favorite moves, I may tweak them, changing them up a bit. At the end of such sessions, I pray about whether this bit of ministering was personally for me or whether it can be ministered to our congregation. Does it line up with the vision and ministry that is issuing forth from our pastor, and I pray to have my pastors vision and heart, so that our ministry will enhance what he is working towards.
