In our dance ministry we accept anyone over the age of 12, regardless of skill level or experience. So we find ourselves going over dance basics continually. That is not to say that we never do more complex moves or advance our skills, we do. If there is a particular piece that requires more complex skills, we introduce them across the floor. For instance in one of our dances there was a deep back release, but our flexibility wasn’t quite in tune with the choreography. So as we went across the floor, I demonstrated the move and a stretch exercise that could be done at home (on the job, in the store…) that would enhance our flexibility. I had each dancer do the stretch, aligning their bodies properly so they would know how it should feel when they attempted to do the moves alone. Then I gave them home work. By the next rehearsal, I could see an overall  increase in flexibility at various levels within the group.
