  • Forced Perspective : A Year End Reflection (0) December 17, 2013

There is a wonderful trend going on in the art world. Gifted, talented street and sidewalk artist are drawing these 3 dimensional images, creating illusions of depth and breadth using an age old technique of forced perspective. In its most basic form, it works by the artist choosing a single focal point and drawing all lines converging towards it. It’s interesting watching people respond to it, walking around what seems to be a gaping hole in the ground, or jumping over what they perceive to be a puddle. It occurs to me that we, in our walk with Christ, spiritually can do the same thing. If we are not careful to look closely, we can allow our perspective to be forced by situations and circumstances, by words, actions, motivations of others. Subtle seemingly harmless distractions, can cause us to walk off our path trying to maneuver around what we can safely navigate over. If we refocus, if we keep our hearts and minds “stayed on Jesus” we can see the truth. As amazingly brilliant, and fascinating the artist, is, you won’t fall through a drawing of a hole in the ground. Don’t let a cunningly crafted illusion, move you off track, and off the course God has designed for you. Force your own perspective, stay focused on God.

     John 8:32 (KJV)
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
